The Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation

The Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation was created in the fall of 1997 “totally committed to the goal of improving the quality of life in Salisbury and its surrounding area.” In the five ensuing years, the Foundation has approved some 177 original grants totaling over $7.7 million to 84 different organizations and entities. The Foundation has an eclectic approach to grantmaking, with support for social service agencies, arts and athletic organizations, the entire range of education including preschool and daycare, public health, neighborhood revitalization, and environmental issues. Bricks and mortar projects have been supported, as well as innovative study and research programs. One of the Foundation’s success stories can be found in "Shakespeare Lives!" project, which it has supported for Rowan County public school teachers since spring 1999. This innovative program has brought international experience and exposure to Rowan County classrooms, and elevated the level of teaching Shakespeare, while enhancing the life experience of his words to young, impressionable minds.
